Truly, Antwerps Cathedral Choir has got a very rich tradition to its credit and if you can stretch it backwards, naturally you will be able to reach the later half of the thirteenth century, because it was in the year of 1382 this particular church choir was conceived and got structured itself.

Some of the highly commendable services of Antwerps Cathedral Choir include enhancing the overall divine atmosphere of all kinds of liturgical celebrations, besides the first weekly ‘Pontifical High Mass’ which is conducted in the Antwerp Cathedral. Apart from this extremely delightful duty of making the entire Cathedral ambiance exceptionally suitable for the highly prominent ‘Pontifical High Mass’, Antwerps Cathedral Choir also attend to some entirely different occasional duties also. Presently there also exist a separate association for the purpose of promoting Antwerps Cathedral Choir and it is named as ‘The Friends of the Antwerp Cathedral Choir’; this is in fact a non-profit organization and its work is concentrated on organizing the various choir tours, concerts, festivals and other kinds of full-scale activities.

It has to be noted here that there was a practice of giving training to various musicians within Antwerps Cathedral Choir itself and this training programs can be seen from the beginning of the last century; that is, from the year of 1927 onwards. A special association, Choraelhuys, was formed only for this purpose and by and large, the effect of this special training drive was visible, in and around the nearby places. We can very rightly see that it was from this tradition that the ‘Glee Club’, the special forum for teaching music to the young people originated. Along with the gentle rolling of time, plenty of changes occurred to the overall setup of Antwerps Cathedral Choir also. Very recently, that is in the year of 2000, another separate entity, other than the ‘Glee Club’ and ‘Girl Cantorij’, was created within Antwerps Cathedral Choir. By this way the Cathedral was benefited by the beginning of an adult choir, along with the two vibrant youth choirs, the ‘Glee Club’ and the ‘Girl Cantorij’. The adult choir division of Antwerps Cathedral Choir is named as ‘The Capella’ and within a very short span of time of its induction ‘The Capella’ has really captured the imagination of music lovers.
